System data

Navigation: Configuration > General settings > System data

The System data page defines the administrative identification of the IRF1000 device within the network. The system name configured here is used by network management protocols such as SNMP and appears on the System State diagnostics page, making it essential for identifying the device in monitoring systems and inventories. The contact and location fields provide supplementary information for maintenance personnel and are also exposed via SNMP. These fields follow the standard MIB-II system group (sysName, sysLocation, sysContact), so values entered here are directly visible to any SNMP management station querying the device. Changes take effect after clicking Apply settings, but must be saved persistently via the Save page to survive a reboot.

Settings

System name
A freely configurable name for the device. This name is used as the SNMP sysName and appears in diagnostic displays and log entries. Choose a descriptive name that allows easy identification of the device within your network infrastructure (e.g., by location, function, or asset number).
Serial no. as system name
When enabled, the device type and serial number are used as the system name automatically. This overrides any manually entered system name and ensures a globally unique identifier. This option is useful in deployments with many devices where manual naming would be impractical.
System location
A free-text description of the physical location of the device (e.g., "Building A, Cabinet 3, Rack 2"). This value is exposed as the SNMP sysLocation and helps maintenance personnel locate the device.
Contact name
The name of the person or department responsible for this device. This value is exposed as part of the SNMP sysContact information.
Contact phone
The telephone number of the responsible contact person or department.
Contact e-mail
The e-mail address of the responsible contact person or department.

Security

The system name, location, and contact information are exposed via SNMP to any station with valid credentials. Do not include sensitive information such as internal security zone designations or detailed network topology hints in these fields. In environments subject to IEC 62443, use a naming convention that supports asset identification without revealing information useful to an attacker.
